Desafios Literários para 2014: ‘My 500 Words Challenge’

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 presetAnd this is my third challenge accepted for 2014. (versão portuguesa no final)

‘My 500 words: A Writing Challenge’ has a few basic rules (that you can find out here…) but the most important is to write five hundred words per day, during January.

I was thinking about all I have in store for this month and figured I might as well have an added incentive to perform. I’m planning on finishing a short story that has a submission date for the end of this month, and will be my December 2013 short story for the 12 Months/12 Short Stories Challenge; write my January short story also for the 12 Months/12 Short Stories Challenge; and write a few blog posts and Writer Log updates.

I figured that, between the 5000 to 15000 word count needed for the first project, the 1000 words rule for the second and the usual 700 words for post, I would be able to manage writing the daily quote… even if things get complicated I’ll still have plenty projects to choose from.

I usually manage to write something every day, but I don’t seem to be able to keep track of my daily word count. I tried everything. From excel sheets to paper drawings, from Outlook appointments to moleskines… I’m hopeful that this way I’ll be able to discipline myself into establish, maintain and keep track of a daily word count.

So… today I’m starting by breaking my own rules: given that I assumed I would be writing everything in Portuguese and (obviously) I’m doing it in English; also that I would deliver my daily quote with an ongoing project but, once again I chose to do an article and inform the world.

Now I’m writing my five hundred in English and have to do a mirror article in my mother tongue, because I write mostly in Portuguese and don’t want my readers to feel neglected. Even if we have a very good ratio (and we definitely do have it) of English connoisseurs.

My challenge will be to fuel my writing and stop embarking in the whims of my inspirational moods. I usually keep a good workflow but I seem to be unable to keep track of all the numbers. I really never know how much I’ve done except in the end of something… and only if I have to write an article about it.

And, let’s face it, if I have any aspirations in planning and delivering in all my ongoing writing/reading/blogging/publishing projects I must be able to keep focused and to put myself on track. I’m hoping (and working really hard) to make a really big difference in my writing plans for 2014 so I figured I might as well start on the January 1st. right?!

Good luck to all of you that will be joining us in the ‘My 500 words: A Writing Challenge’ and for those who are curious, follow the link and see if this is a challenge for you too…

And, no. I couldn’t write five hundred words without cutting and adding. For me, that’s not possible or advisable, given that this is a blog article and not in my mother tongue… I will be ashamed enough with the typos and incoherencies that I’m sure I’ll be seeing later, I would not add to the mess and not revise at the best of my capabilities.

And the word count is: 932

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 presetBom, agora em Português…

Trabalhar, Planear, Esforçar-me, Trabalhar, Medir Resultados, Insistir, Não Desistir, Trabalhar, Não Desanimar e… Trabalhar.

É preciso trabalhar de forma mais inteligente. Empenhar-nos de verdade. Amar o que fazemos mesmo que, por vezes, isso nos leve à loucura. Porque esta vida não faz sentido de outra forma.

Hoje, escrevo. Amanhã, também.

E a contagem de palavras é: 923
