Review/Opinião: ‘The Mating’ by Nicky Charles

The-Mating-by-Nicky-CharlesThis is my first Reading Romances book. January’s prompt is:

‘Marry Me? – Marriage of convenience. An arranged or forced marriage leads to love.’

Circumstances led me to download ‘The Mating’ from smashwords.com by Nicky Charles, the first book from ‘The Law of the Lycans’ series. The story starts with an unwanted mating between Elise, a young werewolf, and Kane the Alfa of one of the nearest packs. The romance evolves in Elise’s new home and as soon as they entered Kane’s territory complications start to arise.

I liked this book. The werewolf world is interesting enough, the characters well constructed and the plot had the twists and turns that captivate the reader. Nonetheless I felt that some of the scenes were a bit long and with too many details when they weren’t really needed. I felt the story drag itself a little bit in the middle.

Other aspect that kept me a little put off was, even though the mating was the central subject I felt that Kane and Elise’s relationship was always in second place. Maybe it should have been explored differently. I felt that it lack’s in the get to know one another and it doesn’t really supports the growing connection between them. Throughout the story I couldn’t shake the idea that for a bright woman, Elise was too gullible.

Although the quirks, I liked the book well enough. It has romance, action and mystery, and a pack of werewolves as central characters with the mixed natures to keep things interesting.

It was a fun reading and I think I’ll be downloading number two…

‘Casas comigo? – Casamento por conveniência. Um casamento forçado que evolui para amor.’

Outras circunstâncias levaram-me a fazer o download de ‘The Mating’ de Nicky Charles, do smashwords.com, o primeiro livro da série ‘The Law of the Lycans’.
